Gap Creek home away from home

Gap Creek by Robert Morgan published by Simon and Schuster, Inc. Robert Morgan is an English professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York he is a James B. Hanes Poetry Prize winner and has written many other books. His first book was a finalist for the Southern Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction. This book in shocking and embracing on what a woman can do all on her own yes the book takes place in the past and the author does a great job of showing what it was like back then so you get a taste of the troubles of our past relatives.  This book shows how a young woman Julie goes through a hard childhood and a rough marriage with Hank her husband and still makes it out alright.
This book was a great read I wish it had a better ending or a sequel but other than that I would say it is a must read it shows you so much about our past and what men and woman had to go through so many years ago and to see where we are today is amazing.  How not having a job was like back then vs. today we have shelter and thing to help those who can’t help themselves and they didn’t we have come so far and this book shows that. This quote will show you how different thing were “Papa dug out more worms to clear Masenier’s mouth and throat. And when he stopped Masenie’s mouth was open and his eyes was open, but he was still” (15). Back then they didn’t have 911 to call so when someone was dying they had to try to do the best they could.  “After we kissed and held hands and looked into each other’s eyes for what must have been an hour, ignoring the birdcalls from the hill, and Carolyn’s giggles behind the window, Hank said he had to go, if he was to get off the mountain before dark”(46). Even in rough times you can find love this book is a great read. Since I grew up on a farm it reminded me a lot of home except for the fact that we have electricity which made me realize how it would have been like back then which was very interesting for me because I have always wanted to live in the past and that really showed ma a different side of things. But having struggles no matter how hard they are and coming out on top hit home with me and my life so I really enjoyed this book and I hope you do too.

days of our lives

The trees stand still like a posts
breeze blowing leaves
the blue water signing

gray skies in the vast distance
calm cool colors collect
what a breathing taking sight

hills open like eyes
over the far unknown
so motionless and quiet but yet so alive

wild card utopia

Utopia the place to be no matter what is going on.
it seams like everyone can see it just beyond the horizon like it is so close but yet so far away
we all want to go there but are afraid of what will be left behind
life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you have until you open the box
a place like this is too good to be true
we all look for this place but can never find it
because there in all reality is no such place even though we all want there to be one
but if there was don't you think we would all be there I mean come on who want to be here
if they can be in a perfect place
